We miss you!
To all our students and families,
Please continue to check the CBE website for updates on COVID- 19 and CBE procedures.
While we take the time to adjust to this, and determine what the remainder of the school year might look like we have complied a list of **free** resources that you can access with your child.
YouTube can also be a great tool, and something that we use in our classroom. Please do not leave your child unsupervised while on YouTube.
Our students love the "Number Rock" songs; for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4FXl4zb3E4
For movement activities and self- regulation indoors, we recommend Cosmic Kids yoga. They have numerous themed yoga videos, as well as breathing and self-regulation techniques: https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga
Going outdoors is also a great idea. Social distancing does not mean we can not be outdoors if it is healthy to do so. Have your children count rocks or make number groups, make patterns in nature, or see different ways they can move there bodies (Can you move like an elephant? Like a monkey? Like a turtle? Can you skip? Can you gallop? What ways can you move your body while still being in control?)
We have also been practicing being mindful in a sit spot, this is an activity that can be done indoors or outdoors. Students use a journal and choose one spot to observe with their senses. What do they see? What do they hear? What do you feel? We sit silent for 10-15 minutes while they are able to make notes and draw in their journal to record their experience.
Additional ideas that do not require technology or internet access include:
I hope this give you ideas, while the CBE works to finalize a system wide plan for distant learning.
All our love, and don't hesitate to email us,
Ms. Waters and Ms. Anna

Additional ideas that do not require technology or internet access include:
- Interview a family member.
- Measure your bed, and other furniture in your home using non-standard measurment. Our Grade 1/2 classes have been using blocks as a measuring tool.
- Draw the types of birds that frequent your yard or windows.
- Build a "fort" out of blankets and chairs. Camp in it while you create stories to tell your family over dinner.
- Put the spices in your kitchen in ABC order.
- Stay up late and stargaze.
- Call a grandparent or older relative. Ask them to teach you the words to a song from their childhood days.
- Try freezing different liquids in your home. Write down how long each one takes. What do you notice?
- Draw a map of your home.
- Learn, practice, and tell three new jokes.
- Use household materials to make and play instruments.
- Collect leaves from ten different (non-harmful) plants. Sort them by size, color, and texture.
- Put your favourite book, toy, and keepsake on a small table in sunlight. Draw or paint it.
- Find, pick, and dissect a flower.
- If you have stairs, walk up and count them. Walk down and count by twos. Walk up and count by threes. Continue through tens.
- Write a story on your sidewalk using chalk.
- Sort objects in your home. Try different sorting rules like size, color, weight.
- Try building different paper airplanes. Which one flies better? Record your findings.
- Learn three new jokes. Tell them to someone in your family.
- Find ten rocks smaller than a dime.
I hope this give you ideas, while the CBE works to finalize a system wide plan for distant learning.
All our love, and don't hesitate to email us,
Ms. Waters and Ms. Anna
