Mission Impossible

Have you seen Ms. Anna's twitter? She tweets about the happenings in our classroom. 

For example, she shared this tweet about our Mission Impossible!  This week the teacher's set up an obstacle course in the gym.  Students have been having a great time being challenged to go through the course as many times as possible during our gym period.  They are working on their gross and locomotor skills; such as skipping, jumping, balance, slithering, and crawling, as well as their teamwork and fair play skills.

We can't wait to do it again next week!

Mapping Our Classroom

Within our Social Studies curriculum, students have been exploring mapping- starting with the area we spend the most time in... our classroom!! We started by listing out the 11 most important things in our classroom- including everything from the doors and the desks, to the sink.  Students were then tasked with creating a "birds eye view" representation of our classroom using a variety of loose part manipulatives.  Ms. Anna and I were very impressed at the creativity of our Grade Ones and Twos!  When students were finished their maps, we referenced our checklist together and they self- assessed whether or not they remembered all of our important parts! Those who forgot some, now have an understanding of where they can improve at their second mapping attempt.  Check out some of our sweet maps! 3D Shape Building

Grade 1s and 2s have been learning about different 2D and 3D shapes. This week they got to work using a variety of materials to build their shapes. Students were heard using mathematical vocabulary such as: "I need to add 2 more corners "- SL "I am making a cube! "- HS "It's a triangular pyramid! "- YD " I made a pryramid, I think I know how to make a diamond "- DL "I think I'll try to make a rectangle "- OK They also were working together, sharing materials, and encouraging each other: "Can I please use the tape when you're done?"- KJ "If you come here I can help you"- SL "That's okay, it's your first try"- SL "Did you try making a circle and then putting up walls?"- YK "Practice makes perfect, like my dad always says!" - MT Here are some student photos they took of themselves and their creations:

CFD Birthdays

We have been connecting with a lot of families, and it's so great to hear from you all. If your child's birthday is coming up, you can request your local firehall do a "drive by birthday".  " The Calgary Fire Department is hoping to brighten the birthdays of kids and seniors whose celebrations have been scrapped because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Fire Chief Steve Dongworth says firefighters have already been delivering some birthday greetings outside homes with sirens and lights blaring."
